Daisy
Air
Rifles

The Daisy 901 Air Rifle
is an excellent example of design collaboration at its
finest. CMCI and partner Surfacing Solutions of Waterloo, IA,
undertook the creation of a new rifle design to be
unveiled at a Las Vegas convention. The true
challenge of the project? It was to be designed
from concept to functional prototypes in just five
weeks!
The two design
organizations split the work between internal and external
modeling (development of A-surface aesthetic geometry and
internal functional elements). Daily design
conferencing and utilization of PTC's best in
class surfacing, assembly analysis and collaborative design
tools quickly brought the virtual design into
fruition. Three separate prototype facilities were
subcontracted to produce cast aluminum and urethane
components from the Pro/E models.

The result? Functional
prototypes were delivered in less than five
weeks.
